Many people worry about how to raise their search engine placement so that they can enjoy greater numbers of targeted traffic and make greater amounts of money. The engines are not very complicated to figure out and one must do that before you can hope to truly increase the rank that you currently have.

You need to understand that search engines are responsible for getting the majority of traffic to websites, and of all the engines, Google is responsible for 60 percent of the traffic. If you want an improved search engine placement then you will have to understand how they find and present the relevant information to your prospective customers. This can be done one of two ways: either through robots, or through crawlers (also called spiders) that are more common.

You can use these web spiders to index access to web pages across the internet through search engines. The spider indexes your sight by searching your pages after you submit your site.

When the spider returns, it brings back all the information it needs and deposits it where the data is being indexed. The spider is capable of indexing pages which your website links to also. Sites with hundreds of pages could be a problem, however, because spiders only index a limited amount of pages.

Since the spider does check back, any changes to your site should be eventually indexed as well. The frequency of how often these returns take place is up to the moderators that run the search engines. A spider is much like a book that houses the table of contents, content, and references to other sites. Some spiders are able to index up to one million pages a day – such examples are Excite, Lycos, AltaVista and Google.

In coming up with search engine placement, search engines look for information that is the closest to what the searcher is typing within their internal index. It’s not truly searching the web, so if you have a keyword such as “buy management book” in the search engine index, then your website should be in the first page of results for a searcher who types in that word. You will not get the same ranking in every single search engine, because every engine uses a different search algorithm to search their indexes.

You should also pay attention to how often and where your keywords are located. Keyword density for many people is usually around 3-7 percent to keep from being considered keyword stuffing or spamdexing. The search engines also analyze how each links are formed and what are the pages all about.

Better search engine rankings come through pages that are related. In closing, the way to improve your search engine placement list is to learn how the search engine works and use those tools to help your website get higher rankings.
